Of these hotels, the 11-room R48 Hotel and Garden is the very latest. More than a decade in the making, it occupies a previously vacant 1933-built Bauhaus building, on a prime plot in the central core of Rothschild. The combination of architecture and location is notable, but so is the hotel’s ambition: to provide a level of exclusivity that this city has not seen before.

Last month I stayed at R48, a new 11-suite hotel in Tel Aviv that is the latest project of R2M, the restaurant and hospitality company that local creative directors-collectors-aesthetes Mati and Ruti Broudo founded some 30 years ago. The hotel, which opened a little while after its intended debut, is 100 per cent worth the wait; its gourmet restaurant, Chef’s Table, contributes no small amount to that success.

Tel Aviv’s newest design hotel comes with impressive credentials. Housed in a 1930s Bauhaus building on Rothschild Boulevard, it has a rooftop pool, an urban garden by Dutch designer Piet Oudolf and interiors by Studio Liaigre.

This new, 11-room boutique project aims to set a new standard for hospitality in Tel Aviv, and features landscape architecture by Piet Oudolf (High Line Park, New York City), who was commissioned to design a garden that would connect the two plots, as well as interior design and furnishings by Liaigre.
